For Biggest Loser Fans…
I found something in this week?s issue of TIME magazine that really hit home.
rn
rn
There was a one page article about some of the contestants on The Biggest Loser and it talks about how these folks can lose 20 lbs. in one week ?on the ranch? but most of them have gained back their weight once they go back home and there are no cameras or cash prices for losing weight.
rn
rn
The article talks about losing a lot of weight and then gaining it back, which is what I?m going through right now. I lost 117lbs and now have gained back 35 lbs. and can?t seem to get back on the right track.
rn
rn
There was something in the article that really made my day and really gave me some much need motivation and inspiration. The article states -
rn
rn
?The National Weight Control Registry, which tracks the habits of some 5,000 successful maintainers, cites a study showing only a fifth of dieters with a history of obesity sustain a loss of 10% of their body weight for a year or more.?
rn
rn
The article states that folks that can do that are very rare, and I have done that. I have been able to maintain an 80lb loss for a little over a year and a half now, which is, roughly, a 20% weight loss.
rn
rn
The article also makes me wondering if I will be watching the next season of The Biggest Loser. I really like the show, it teaches me how to live a healthy lifestyle and really gives me a lot of inspiration, however, after reading this article and realizing that a large majority of these folks are not getting the weight off shows me that the show is extremely unrealistic and I will have to watch it as a fan, not as someone trying to lose weight. I use to think that, if they could lose 20 lbs. in a week, why couldn?t I?
rn
rn
I do not live in a calorie controlled world, I can not exercise 4 hours a day and I do not have a personal training busting my ass when I start slacking. I work 45 hours a week, have an 8 month old son and run a small, unprofitable business.
rn
rn
I have typed out the entire article and will be adding it to my webpage (www.sharkysworld.com/weightloss) in the next few days for anyone that wants to read it.
rn
rn
Best of luck to all of you guys out there busting your asses to lose weight, I know how hard it is and you guys are on the right track just by trying.

Thanks for sharing this information!! It makes you realize that what hollywood is calling “reality” shows aern’t really “reality” at all!! It is best just to watch these shows for the entertainment value and not live your life by them or what they say!!
This is why celebrities can stay in shape, they have the personal trainers 24/7, and the chef’s to make their meals. I would be in awesome shape if I had all that. Some people say “Well you still have to be the one to workout and say no to unhealthy foods.” Yes of course but like you said if one had a trainer kicking them in the butt, it would be easier. I always wonder about these people on the Biggest Loser what happens when they go home. I do enjoy the show but I know many of these contestants have other issues that keep the weight on besides food. On the show they don’t address these problems so they lose the weight and go home and those issues come up again. And so does the weight gain. I think too that these contestants lose huge amounts of weight is a very short time and chances of it staying off are slim. Has to be a mind and body set, which they don’t have when off the show and coming back to reality.
Thanks for the information. I really like watching the biggest loser. I feel it shows me new exersices and new foods, but your magizen sounds all to right. OH… and how was your new plan of attack are you sticking to it?
I agree! Quite a reality check. Thanks for sharing!
SO TRUE..
Congrats on maintaining that 20% weight loss, you’re obviously one of the few determined and motivated enough to make REAL changes in their life! Just think how much more exercise you will be getting as your son grows up! My little boy is 15 months old now and running rings around me…a day playing chase and football certainly gets the heart pumping (and what could be more fun than that?!) Good luck, keep up the great work.x
Thanks for sharing that info. I too use to be a fan of the shhow but I realized that I couldn’t do what they do on there. It is just not realistic. We can only do what WE can. Best of luck to you.
I have a watch it. I admire all of them but kidding aside not muh impress with there performance because all there movements are watch. Its hard to control the way you eat and your daily activity. I guess if you want to live the way it is you will do what your body needed to do. Hope you maintain your weight back to normal. It’s ok to gain a little weight but i guess you needed to control it.
Plus when they weigh in they are dehydrated!
